Here are links to the national lakeshore homepageand a map.

Never thought a lakeshore could look like this. I was there for the first time in May, 2000, which was also my first camping experience ever. Since then I've been there twice more, mostly recently as a stopover after the camping trip in Pukaskwa. One day I would like to hike the Lakeshore Trail between the Log Slide and Miners Castle.

[Well, I did it. See the pictures from my Lakeshore Trail Hike, July 2004.]

The Eastern Half

The favorite camping spot (home away from home) is the Hurricane River site, which is one of the three main sites accessible by car. There is a 15-mile drive on dirt road though, which makes things exciting. Neat things around include the Au Sable Lighthouse, Log Slide, some waterfalls, and many shipwrecks.

The Western Half

The western half of the national lakeshore is more developed, with a paved H58 all the way to the Little Beaver Lake turn-in. Miners Castle is an awesome sight; one of these days I would like to get a view of it from the lake, maybe on a kayak.
